Celebrities Celebrate their Mums on twitter!

A whole heap of celebrities have been paying tribute to their mummies on twitter today.

Singer Jessie J, who has spent the past few weeks in Australia and Asia on tour, posted about her mum first thing today (18th March).

“Mamma knows best. All I have to say. My Mummy rocks. <3,” The Domino Star tweeted this morning.

Katy Perry also posted a special message to celebrate Mother’s Day, and the Teenage Dream’ singer admitted she sometimes feels like a mum to all of her fans as well.

“Happy Mum’s day to all the lovely mum’s out there #UK #imamumtomykittenstoo,” Katy wrote.

Jessica Simpsons big bump & even bigger heels!

baby bump, pregnant, heels

Okay so all the other news and baby sites are running headlines about american singer Jessica Simpson being spotted out and about looking glowing and revealing that she is having girl. Yes she looks great but HELLO has no-one else noticed the massive heels she is wearing!!

I can barely walk in heels on a normal day, so I have no idea how celebrities can walk around so effortlessly in killer heels whilst pregnant, carrying all that extra weight! Ahhhhhhh!

This is what the experts say about wearing high heels whilst pregnant

‘The ligaments that control your lower back are softened during pregnancy, so they are more at risk of being stretched and damaged. The problem with high heels is that they alter your posture and put a strain on this already weakened area. This could contribute to lower back pain, which can be severe.’

But…..I would like to point out that maybe Jessica changed into flats as soon as she got in the car. I’m sure wearing heels now and again whilst pregnant is fine, personally, I just couldn’t do it as I was always scared of falling over!

Pregnant Sophie Ellis Bextor at the Elle Style Awards

Pregnant, baby bump, celeb mum, elle style swards 2012

Singer Sophie Ellis Bextor looked gorgeous at the Elle Style Awards 2012 last night. A few weeks ago the 32 year old labelled all maternity wear as being ‘rubbish’ but she managed to find one polka dot dress that showed off her baby bump perfectly. Sophie attended the awards at the Savoy Hotel with her husband Richard Jones. The couple announced on twitter in October that they will be expecting their third child together

‘I am having another baby. Due in Spring. A little brother or sister for Sonny and Kit. Family e-b-jones are happy and excited. It’s a lovely thing’

Both previous pregnancies for Sophie were difficult as Sonny, now 7,  was born eight weeks premature by emergency cesarean section after she developed pre-eclampsia. Kit their youngest son who is now aged 2, was also premature, weighing just 2 lb 10oz when he arrived nine weeks early.

We hope Sophie has a happy and safe birth – she is due in April

Simon Cowell comes to the rescue of a Dad-to-be by lending him his private jet!

John Hagenstede

Everyone’s favourite talent show judge, Simon Cowell, came to the rescue when he invited a member of the Britain’s Got Talent crew to fly on his private jet with the BGT judges after finding out the soundman’s wife had unexpectedly gone into labour.

Sound recordist John Hagenstede was in Edinburgh with Simon and the rest of the talent show’s team for the latest round of auditions.  On Saturday evening John received a call from his expectant girlfriend Lisa Stewart saying she had gone into labour back in Surrey – nearly 400 miles away from where John was.

John explained ’We looked up every possible option of getting me home and I was devastated when I realised the only option was waiting and getting a flight in the morning. I knew I would miss the birth of my first child.

‘Simon Cowell came over and shook my hand. He said “congratulations” and “come on, let’s do this”.

John shared the private jet with Simon and other Britain’s Got Talent judges; Alesha Dixon and David Walliams

To top it off, Mr Cowell, also arranged for a Chauffeur driven car to take him straight to the hospital after the private jet landed in Luton. John got to the hospital with moments to spare and his first child, Jude Berkeley Hagenstede, was born at 1.12am yesterday weighing 7lbs 8oz.

Congratulations!

First pictures of Blue Ivy Carter!

Proud parents Beyonce and Jay Z have released the first pictures of their baby daughter – Blue Ivy Carter.

Although this may be the first glimpse we’ve gotten of Blue, the infant has already broken records after her cries were featured on her father’s song “Glory.” Jay-Z released the track two days after her birth, making her the youngest person ever to appear on the Billboard chart.

For a superstar celebrity couple its very surprising that they opted not to sell photos of their first born to a glossy magazine . Instead the couple released five images of the 1 month old on a special site –  http://helloblueivycarter.tumblr.com/

Gwyneth Paltrow: Women who have children should stay at home

actress, celeb mum, chris martin

Multi-Millionaire actress Gwyneth Paltrow has made some Mums this morning a little annoyed (yes I am talking about myself!) with some recent comments.

Miss Paltrow, who won an Oscar for her role in Shakespeare in Love, said she cooks for her husband, Coldplay star Chris Martin, and bathes their children, Apple, 7, and Moses, 5. She rises at 7am and works on her website and cookery books while her children are at school, before preparing dinner for her husband when he returns from work to their £6 million home in London.

Gwyneth, 39, told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I have little kids in school. I want to maintain my marriage and my family, so I have to be here when he (Martin) comes home.”

The super glamorous actress is telling women who want a family to stay at home. Ummm ok I wish it was this simple Gwyneth, but its not! I would love to live in a 6 million pound mansion in a fantastic part of London, with a husband and not having to work, but this is not the reality of nearly every Mum in the world! I understand Miss Paltrow has worked hard to get where she has and can therefore now afford to stay at home, but as a single Mum with no steady income coming in every month I find her comments a little ridiculous.

Miss Perfect Paltrow we love you but before you open your mouth next time, please think about the 99% of other Mums who does not live a hollywood style life.

Presenter Holly Willoughby 'Yes I have a nanny!'

celeb mum, this morning presenter

Finally a celebrity admits they have a nanny! The ‘This morning’ presenter said ‘Yes I have a nanny, I can’t leave a 9 month old by herself!’

Holly Willougby has always been my favourite presenter and I always wondered how on earth she manages two children, a clothing line and a full-time job hosting one of the most popular daytime shows in the UK. The yummy mummy admitted on ‘This Morning’ today that she has a nanny, the comments came after the news of Gwyneth Paltrow saying that Mums should stay at home.

Now Gwyneth is always feeding us comments on how to be the ‘ideal’ mother and wife but is she forgetting to tell us that she has help to be a supermum! (Now, maybe she has no help. If this is true I will go back to my room and cry myself to sleep thinking how I can also be a supermum like her! Read Gwyneth’s full story here)

After Holly revealing she does have help in her life from a nanny and her husband I feel so much better! Because celebrities rarely talk about hiring nannies or having childcare we are under the illusion that we should be juggling everything as perfectly as them. So, now I’m going to give myself a break once in a while. Right I’m off to eat a chocolate muffin.

Jennifer Ellison loses five stone!

Dancing on ice, celeb mum, size 18, post-baby body

Dancing on Ice contestant, Jennifer Ellison, posed with a cut out of herself as she showed off her brand new body. The Mum of one, rocketed up to a size 18 after the birth of her daughter. She also suffered from post-natal depression in 2010.

The 28 year old said ‘I didn’t want to be in the gym. I just wanted to be a mum. I didn’t realize how big I was until I look back now… I put on like five stone. ’I was still in maternity stuff a year [after the birth]. It was really, really hard’

Jennifer has now lost an incredible 5 stone and the reason she decided to lose weight was from a comment a casting director made. She went to an audition for a big west-end show and the director simply said that Jennifer was ‘far too fat’. Heartbreaking at the time, but now the former Brookside actress realises he was only speaking the truth.

Beyonce gives birth naturally & releases statement

pregnant showbiz celeb

Today Jay Z (real name Shaun Carter) and wife Beyonce, released a joint statement quashing reports that daughter, Blue Ivy, was delivered by C Section.

“We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.

“Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives.

“We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support. Beyoncé & Jay-Z.”

The hospital at which Beyonce gave birth were also keen to put rumours to rest:

“Lenox Hill Hospital and its staff were delighted to welcome the Carter family for the birth of their firstborn on Saturday evening, but we are troubled by the misinformation being circulated in some news media reports”

“The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true. The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations. Our executive suites are available for any patient, including the food service and amenities provided to the Carter family

But the hospital did admit that the ‘family does have its on security detail on site’.

Beyonce Knowles and husband Jay Z welcomed their daughter into the world on Saturday 7th January 2012 and have called her ’Blue Ivy Carter’ – not a bad name considering her parents are music royalty. The 30 year old singer checked into the Lenox Hill Hospital under the name ‘Ingrid Jackson’ and reportedly rented out the entire fourth floor of the hospital for $1.3 Million! To stop images leaking to the public, employees had to give in their mobile phones and security cameras were taped up.

The winner of celeb big brother 2006, revealed earlier in the year that she would have problems conceiving due to very low fertility, so you can imagine how over the moon herself and husband-to-be Alex Reid were when she tested positive on a pregnancy test. Speaking to new magazine this week, Chantelle, 28, said that being pregnant has helped her get over her body issues.

Unlike many celebrities Ms Houghton revealed that she’s not worrying about losing the weight afterwards. ‘I’ll just do it gradually. I’m in no rush to snap back into shape. I’m not putting any pressure on myself. And Alex will help me.’

The mum-to-be said her pregnancy was a miracle as she only had a one per cent chance of conceiving naturally.  Big congratulations to Chantelle & Alex!

Mother shouts racist abuse while toddler sits on her knee.

Last night police arrested a women after she allegedly hurled racist abuse and swore on a tram in South London at other passengers.

A video of the incident has been posted on youtube and shows the 34 year old’s toddler sitting on her knee, listening to her disgusting verbal words. Officers say a women from New Addington has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and is currently being questioned by police.

As a mother this behaviour appals me, not just the abuse to other passengers but also the impact on the child. What kind of person will this little boy turn into if he is being brought up with this kind of attitude and language? I hope the mother in question watches the video back and realises that behaviour is unacceptable and utterly disgusting, especially in front of children.

Actress, singer and single Mum Jennifer Lopez recently talked about her busy lifestyle, career and coping with raising 3 year old twins Max and Emme.

J-Lo admits her life can be stressful and “sometimes it can be overwhelming” but VIPregnancy.com knows that every Mum and Dad feel like this! It’s just a little unfortunate that unlike Ms Lopez we don’t have full time nannies and other helpers to make us feel a little less stressed!

“I have a lot going on with the kids and everything, but you know, anytime I get tired or feel overwhelmed, I go, ‘This is good. I’m alive. It’s OK. I’m lucky.’ I get tired sometimes, but to be quite honest, I love what I do.

“I just have this attitude towards life – you just gotta attack it. You just gotta go for it. Anytime I get any feeling that feels like this is scary, this is too much, I’m like, ‘Don’t be so weak.”

VIPregnancy loves Jennifer’s attitude, if you’re feeling down right now, maybe the kids are driving you mad, stay focused, strong and positive and ‘go for it’

5 Top Tips for dealing with stress during Pregnany

During your pregnancy it is only natural for you to worry and have concerns at some point. After all, expecting a baby is a beautiful, life-changing part of your adulthood, and bringing a baby into the world brings on more responsibilities than you are properly used to. You may be concerns about telling people you’re pregnant, scans, test results and your baby’s general health, anxious about the financial cost of having a baby or just the strain having a new baby could put on your relationship. Rest assure you’re not alone and many new mums-to-be and experienced mums are properly feeling exactly the same way you are.

How you can help yourself:

1) Make time for you

Take time out for yourself, it’s good for you and baby! Don’t feel guilty about not doing the housework, put your feet up, read a book or have a warm bath to release all those worries and tension.

Feeling exhausted? Have a 20 minute nap during the day; your body is working extremely hard to provide nourishment for your baby’s growth and development. Also go to bed early, a good night sleep could help improve how you’re feeling.

If your already a mum and finding it hard to have ‘me time’ it’s a good idea to ask your partner to take the other child or children out to the park or ask friends, relatives or grandparents to have your child or children for the afternoon, while you take a well deserved break. No House Work!

2) Speak your mind

If you’re worrying about whether your baby is healthy, if he/she will be born safely or if you’re up to the task of parenthood speak to your midwife for reassurance and support.

Keeps those lines of communication open with those you love especially your partner, they will be able to give you some advice and support. Talk things through with your partner as he will not know what you are experiencing inside your body and cannot anticipate what your wants and needs will be such as cravings unless you explain to him why you fancy a pickled egg with a sprinkling of coal!

3) Exercise

You may not feel like exercising but it can really help to improve your mood. Exercise is quite safe as long as you’re not doing anything to vigorous and strenuous. Swimming is ideal as the water supports the baby and doesn’t put any pressure on your joints. It gives you an hour or so to yourself and on a bonus keeps you toned.

Pregnancy yoga not only tones and stretches your body but also teaches you breathing and relaxation techniques, just what you need if you’re having a practically hard day.

Any type of low impact exercise such as walking will help to relieve stress and take your mind off things. Try to gradually add exercise into your everyday life and hopefully you will see a big improve in your well-being.

4) Prepare for birth

You may be starting to worry about the labour and how you will cope with the pain, if you sign up for antenatal classes they will be able to advise you on all options available for pain relief, how labour starts and the signs to look out for. If your having a planned caesarean, talk to your midwife about what the procedure will be during the day and discuss your birthing plan, this will make you feel more in control. It is also a good idea to visit the hospital delivery suite and make you familiar with where to go to and whether you have the option of a birthing pool. This will put your mind at rest knowing where you and your baby will be before and after birth.

5) Maintain a well balanced healthy diet!

Eating plenty of foods that contain many essential fatty acids omega 3, vitamins and minerals can help lift your mood so it is very important to maintain a healthy diet.

EXCLUSIVE Interview with Abi Bannatyne

Abi Bannatyne is the eldest child of six, to multi-millionaire and star of Dragon Den – Duncan Bannatyne. VIPregnancy.com recently caught up with the mother of two to find out all about her life, loves and her new little bundle of joy! We love her honesty and she gives us a glimpse into what really goes on in the Bannatyne household…….

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your new baby boy!  Did you suffer from morning sickness?

Thank you! A old wives tale is that you get really bad morning sickness if you are having a boy, true in my case. I still had morning sickness with my daughter but not half as bad as with my son. I spent the first 4 months sucking ginger biscuits and drinking fizzy drinks, I don’t know why but I found that a nice cold can of lemonade really helped! My husband did all the cooking as I could not stand the smell of food and lived pretty much on cereal, fruit and other plain foods like toast and cheese pizzas!

I went off coffee throughout my whole pregnancy with my son, I could not bear the smell or taste of it but on the day I brought him home from the hospital the first thing I did was go straight to the kitchen and make a cup of coffee, that was the best cup of coffee I have ever had.

34 weeks pregnant with ava

I can imagine it must have tasted amazing! How was the whole pregnancy experience second time around?

Both pregnancies were totally different and I have never believed in those old wives tales that dictate what sex your baby is but I have one of each now (Ava is almost 3 and Austin is 4 months) and with my first pregnancy I was huge! I had a girl! Second time around, although I gained more weight but I carried it all up front, I had a massive bump and everyone kept telling me it would be a boy, they were right! My second pregnancy was easier, I knew what to expect and didn’t panic over little things like my belly button popping out. I didn’t enjoy it as much as my first pregnancy, but I think this was mainly due to knowing what was coming.

Did you do anything differently when preparing for the birth of your second child?

I was very scared about giving birth again but I did pregnancy yoga classes during my second pregnancy this time to prepare me for the birth. I followed the breathing techniques during my Sons birth and wow it made such a difference! Second time round was much quicker, much more relaxed but, unfortunately just as painful. The only difference was that I was able to control the pain due to the yoga classes. With my first (my daughter) I was in labour for 32 hours and I had an epidural which was bliss but very upsetting once the baby was born because I could not stand up or move around. I intended not to have an epidural second time around, this was not the case I did have an epidural BUT it did not work, we had lots of issues with it and we never did find out why it did not work so this time around I found the pushing part of labour a lot worse than the first time around but fortunately it only lasted an hour!

Tell us about what happened on the day you gave birth….

With my second labour my waters broke at 3 in the morning and my son was born by 7.40 p.m. so still a long time but my contractions were very weak and irregular until about lunch time and then I went for a long walk. I was taken to the delivery suite at around 2.30 p.m. when my contractions were more regular, longer and painful but I kept using the yoga techniques to get through them.

Who were your birthing partner(s)?

I had my husband and my mum with me. My husband, Anthony, is a professional rugby player and he had a cup final the following day but in order to play he had to train on the day I was in labour. As he only had to train for 2 hours (between 4pm and 6pm) I told him he could go as I was only about 3 cm dilated, meaning I had a long night ahead of me and as I had my mum with me and I was much calmer than first time round

pregnant with austin

Were you okay when your husband left?

Those 2 hours that Anthony was training were the longest two hours of my life! Not only did my mum faint during these 2 hours (it was very hot and she had not eaten all due to the excitement) but it was during these two hours that they were trying to give me an epidural and the first time they tried my right leg felt really numb. You know that feeling you get in your elbow when you hit your funny bone? It was like that but in my leg so they took it out my back and did it again, we thought everything was fine but I kept on asking when it was going to start working and after 40 minutes the midwife said it really should have started working but there were no anesthetist to come and look at me as the hospital was full! So full they had to start sending women to another nearby hospital! I was also beginning to feel this insane need to push, when I told the midwife she examined me, it was exactly 6pm and my husband had just rang to say he had finished training and was going to pick up some food to bring to the hospital. I just remember the look on my midwives face when she told me to ring my husband and tell him not to bother with the food and to come back to the hospital ASAP as the baby was on its way.

So a lot happened in those 2 hours your husband was training! Did you manage to keep doing your breathing techniques during labour?

Because I started to panic, I forgot about the breathing techniques. I was in pure agony and I for what felt like an eternity, but was actually only an hour. My son finally arrived by a Ventouse assisted delivery (Vacuum device) at 7.40 p.m. 6th May (2 days early) weighing 8lb 3 oz, at this point I would like to point out my daughter was a whopping 9lb. I was quite shocked, as statistics show that on average you have a bigger baby second time around.

My son did not cry when he was born and I was very scared as the reason he came out by Ventouse was because his heart beat kept dipping and they had to get him out immediately, there were around 4 or 5 people in the room and it was actually a consultant that delivered the baby over my midwife. As soon as he was born he was whisked of straight away to the corner of the room (but not before I saw his bottom half and screamed out its a boy!) an oxygen mask was placed over his tiny little face and we waited for what seemed like a life time before he finally cried (it was actually only about 3 minutes).

Hearing him cry for the first time after wondering if I would ever hear him cry was the most amazing and emotional experience I have ever gone through, Just thinking about it now brings a tear to my eye.

Austin at 2 weeks newborn baby

We’re so happy both mother and baby were fine in the end. Your husband is a rugby player. Are you planning to have a big family the size of a rugby team!?

I’m sad to say my husband is no longer a rugby player he has decided to retire. His last game he played is when I was in labour and guess what? They won! That was a fantastic game for Anthony to end his career on and it was all over the local papers about how well he had played and how he had almost missed the birth of his son in order to play. I have kept all the newspaper cuttings and put them in my Sons baby book.

The answer to your question however is no I don’t want rugby team sized family! I did, before I had my daughter. I am the eldest of 6 kids and we are all extremely close, I really wanted to re create that with my own family but wow kids are expensive! And not to mention the strain they put on your body … Although I might have one more! But don’t tell my husband that!

Hehehe don’t worry we won’t tell him! Your Dad (Duncan Bannatyne) is currently on our screens in Dragons Dens – I would say he’s the toughest Dragon! What’s he really like as a Dad?

In all honestly my dad was not around as much when I was growing up as I would have liked. He and my mum divorced when I was 9 and he was always working very hard which I am very grateful for, as we would not have the life we have now if it was not for that.

I have never complained, but I am definitely a lot closer to my dad now than when I was a child, he was a great dad and still is, we have had our moments like I am sure any father and daughter do but as I am older and more wiser now I can appreciate what he has done for us and of course I can get in the car and go and see him whenever I want which was obviously not the case when I was a kid. Since having my kids my dad has been around even more and he visits regularly. He is a great granddad and the kids love him.

Do you have any funny stories about your Dad?

I once left him in charge of my daughter for 2 hours while I popped out to the shops with my son who was only about 2 weeks old, the house was a tip by the time I got back and my dad was pulling his hair out! But my daughter was laughing so that is what matters. A couple of hours later I walked into the dinning room to find my sons bouncer hidden underneath the table when I asked my dad what it was doing there he replied ‘I cant turn the damn music off’ it turns out my daughter had turned the music button on so my dad decided to hide it so he could not hear the very annoying nursery rhymes over and over again! Bless him!

I can imagine that happening! Sounds like something my Dad would do! Does he overly spoil his grandchildren? Or is he quite conscious not to?

My dad has never spoilt us he has always been very conscious not to, we know the value of money we have always worked hard for it and we have never taken anything for granted. We are not spoilt in any way, yes we have had nice holidays and we have lived in nice houses but we never ever expect anything from him. He does however spoil my kids, not with materialist things though. For example we were on holiday a few weeks ago and my daughter wanted to ride on the carrousel so my dad bought her 6 rides! Then he gets her an ice cream and anything else she asked for! I swear if she had asked him to actually buy the carrousel for her to have in our garden he would have!

Your husband goes away quite a lot. How do you cope when he’s not with you?

I find it very difficult when my husband goes away, he does not go away as much as he used to now that he does not play rugby but he has gone from training a few hours each week to working a 40 hour week which is actually normally around 50! When we decided to try for our second child my husband was at home most of the time and then he decided to retire before our son is 24 hr old! So I am at home a lot and I won’t lie, it’s hard.

The soft play centers are my night in shinning armor. My daughter can have fun while I sit back and relax with a magazine and a cup of coffee. I always have arts and crafts in the house to keep my eldest entertained while I see to the baby. On the days where I find it quite difficult to get out the house (the days when the washing basked is full, the ironing pile is huge and the cream carpet is now actually brown) I put a film on for Ava and I make her a ‘lunch box’ basically a picnic in a box, she loves this and that gives me a few hours to get the housework done. All my family live a 5 hours drive away including my husbands family so I do find it very hard but my I make sure my husband does his fair share when he is at home so I can have a rest, we take it turns to babysit so we can each go out with our friends etc and every once in a while we will pay a babysitter or ask a friend to watch the kids for a few hours so we can have a few hours together without the children. We don’t do his enough though because it is more difficult for us when our families live no where near us and babysitters are not only hard to find but they are expensive.

Even though your children are still young have they shown any interest in sport or business? Do you think they may follow in the footsteps of their Dad or Granddad?

My daughter is very sporty she is full of life and loves getting muddy and kicking a ball about with my husband in the back garden and my son will more than likely grow up playing rugby and football etc, I know my husband is excited about the prospect of this but as far as any future careers are concerned they are still too young although a fortune teller (who predicted that I would have 2 kids, a girl first and then a boy) told me that one of them would have a fantastic career as a model and one of them would have letters before their name.

Wow! By the sounds of things that fortune teller may end up being right! Has your first child adjusted to having a new baby in the house?

Ava loves her brother and is very protective over him but she as definitely had her moments with him, I cant leave them in the same room together not even for a second, even in front of me she has managed to hit him, pinch his cheecks or shout at him to wake him up. She cries a lot more than she ever used to which I think is because we run to Austin when he cries so she thinks she will get what she wants by crying but we ignore it. I have explained to her that Austin is a baby and he cant talk and that is his only way of communicating! Every morning when she wakes up she asks if ‘Baby Austin’ is big enough to play with yet! I can’t wait till he is old enough to chase after her!

A lot of women struggle with their weight after having children. How did you get back into shape?

With my fist the weight came off very slowly and I found it really hard, I tried everything including the cabbage soup diet but nothing worked until one day my husband came back from a very long trip, my daughter was about 15 months, I had a really hard week and as soon as he walked through the door I picked up my I pod and said I needed some space. I ended up running round our estate, I got lost and didn’t have a clue where I was but I didn’t care, I was by myself, alone with my thoughts not speaking gaga, not doing the cleaning or ironing. I ran whenever I could after that and the weight just dropped off.

I was determined not to put another 3 stone on during my second pregnancy so I went swimming regularly. I still ended up gaining 4 stone. I have already lost over 3 stone through running around after the kids and cutting out desserts and chocolate. I have only ran once since my son was born but I intend to get back into it and hopefully loose the last 8lbs that just won’t seem to budge!

Angelina Jolie & Gwen Stefani's family outing!

Gwen’s son, Kingston was born the day before Angelina’s son, Shiloh and her youngest Zuma is the same age as Jolie’s twins – so we can only imagine how manic their family outing must have been!

Make Up Tips for Busy Mums

1) Be confident with the way you look, believe that you feel and look good.

2) Get a blow dry once a month-it does wonders for your confidence!

3) Keep makeup in the downstairs bathroom or somewhere near the front door-so when you have finished sorting the kids out, you can quickly put some makeup on.

4) Tinted moisturiser saves you putting both foundation and moisturiser on separately – saves time!

5) Lipliner all over your lips will stay on all day just dab some gloss over it.

6) Eyelash extension are a God send.

They last roughly 2-4 weeks. You will not need mascara again or even much eyeliner! So all you will need to do is make sure you have good skin or foundation on and a touch of colour on you lips or blusher!

You will wake up feeling great and may just have to wash your face and brush your teeth and you are good to go!

7) Keep some foundation and lipcolour in the car glove box, whenever there is a traffic light you can quickly put some makeup on if you did not have time when you were at home.

Mel B reveals 'I've finally done it right'

2011 new newborn baby spice girl

Spice girl and currently a judge on Australia’s X Factor, Mel B, reveals ‘I’ve finally done it right’.

The mum to three girls; Phoenix (12), Angel (4) and the latest addition Madison (2 weeks) has said motherhood is different third time around all because of her husband Stephen Belafonte.

Mel said ’Ideally you want to have your loving partner who you’ve created this baby with by your side throughout everything, and in Angel and Phoenix’s cases, that wasn’t the set up’

‘I had a rocky marriage with Phoenix’s dad. The relationship with Angel’s dad, Eddie (Murphy), was over halfway through the pregnancy, and I had to suck it up and get on with it.

‘This time I’ve done it with my partner – someone to come to every prenatal appointment with me, to get excited by every scan – and it feels like I’ve finally done it right.

The former Spice girl described her new daughter. Madison. who weighed 6 pounds and 2 ounces as ‘so gorgeous and such a chilled baby’

Unexpected Pregnancy for The Saturdays

unexpected pregnancyCongratulations to Una Healy from girlband ‘The Saturdays’ after she announced her unexpected pregnancy.

Una (29) has been dating her rugby player boyfriend, Ben Foden, for 2 years. They met when Ben asked his agent to approach Una’s agent! She revealed ‘I really thought it was some kind of joke. It certainly wasn’t the way I expected to meet a guy’

Una has insisted she will still be going on tour with the rest of her bandmates in December on an 11 date UK tour – we hope she does take it easy as she’ll be around 6 months pregnant at the time of touring.

In March Ben admitted he was planning to propose to Miss Healy and also said ‘I want lots of children’. However, this pregnancy was totally unexpected.

She took to twitter today ‘Yes the news is true! @ben_foden and I are expecting a baby BenUna! We are both very excited’

Why every mum-to-be should have a baby shower!

Why every mum-to-be should have a baby shower
By Ally Atkins

We all know the ‘how’ of throwing a baby shower but it’s easy to forget the importance of ‘why’ a new mum should have one.

The term baby shower generates a fairly specific set of images to many people. To some it involves an afternoon filled with over-the-top themed decorations, themed food, themed games and baby-talk; this is the legacy of the stereotypical American baby shower.

Becoming pregnant has to be the most life-changing event of all. While we’re familiar with celebrating the key birthdays, engagements, marriages, retirements and even divorces, pregnancy isn’t usually on the radar. In Britain we have gatherings once the baby arrives so all friends and relatives have the chance to have a peek and pass on messages of congratulations. However, this focus is on the arrival of the baby. What about the mum?

My own insight, and one that suits us rather self-aware Brits, is to curb the over-the-top themed décor – we all know less is more. We prefer to get a gaggle of girlfriends together and indulge in an afternoon of delicious finger foods, champagne, alcohol free cocktails, laughter in abundance and plenty of advice for mummy-to-be. After all, a baby shower is a celebration and should be for the mother as much as the baby. It’s akin to a hen night but with less alcohol; a rallying of the troops, all the girls together with tips and advice about what is in store.

Of course, you can’t forget that baby showers are fun! They all have that in common but, rather than focusing on over-the-top themes and embarrassing games, move the emphasis to showing the mum-to-be she has a support network and give all the tips and advice you can think of. Make a fuss of her, because it’s all going to be about the child from here on in!

So, how do you go about throwing a very British baby shower? Decorations are important but think about the pregnant mother’s tastes – vintage tableware is becoming very popular along with a few baby themed balloons and the odd banner or pieces of bunting adorning the walls. Mix flowers, butterflies, pastel colours and shabby chic in with the baby theme. This breaks it up and creates a well-designed party space to get the girls together. The Ultimate Baby Shower doesn’t just focus on the well-known baby themes, we have purposefully sourced a wide range of elegant girlie themes to mix and match to create a stylish room.

Games don’t need to be the sole focus and they certainly don’t need to be woefully embarrassing – as so many are. Baby trivia is a great ice breaker to encourage guests to mingle and laugh together;
another popular game involves baby scan photos and a list of baby parts to identify, which is much harder than you may imagine. Perhaps the most important is the advice cards. Every new mummy should have a set of advice cards from her close friends and relatives. They are there for her to refer to at any time and some favours to call in would never go amiss….

Think about the food you want to offer; canapés, a buffet or the ever-popular afternoon tea is important and provides a natural break. Champagne and / or alcohol free cocktails create a refined table setting. Position all the favours (thank you gifts) for guests to see and admire before they take them home.

gift list

What about the baby gifts? A stereotypical baby shower does tend to have too much emphasis on the gifts, which can be off-putting. Many people prefer to give the gifts after baby has arrived and this tends to suit us more superstitious Brits. If this is preferred then put a note on the invitation that you’re having a ‘mummy shower’ and gifts are not necessary. Saying that, some parents-to-be do need help preparing for a new baby. In this case it may be a good idea to create a gift list, which we offer at The Ultimate Baby Shower. It doesn’t need to involve hugely expensive items but getting the essentials together before baby arrives can be a great start and a tremendous help.

Finally, to the guests – I’ve read a number of articles lately about men being invited to baby showers and the fact that couples baby showers are becoming the in-thing. I have to say I disagree with that and judging by other reactions I’d say the men are not too keen either! It is customary for the new dad to wet the baby’s head after the birth and celebrate with his friends in his own way.

Remember, the baby shower is about celebrating the mum and nobody can do this better than her girlfriends. It’s about creating a support network, which will be there long after the little addition arrives.

Lose weight – Quick Three Tips after giving birth

How I lost weight – Three tips after giving birth

People always comment how thin I am (my son is now 2 years and 3 months, so I’ve had a lot of time!) I do wonder how I keep losing weight and stay slim. To be honest I think I’m VERY lucky, I have a very fast metabolism and on top of that a very active toddler.

I was a size 6 before I became pregnant, when up to a size 14 (which I was more than happy with!) and now I’m back at a size 6 again. I actually want to put on a little bit of  weight (you probably think I’m mad!) but I will address this in a later blog post!

So, this is what I did after I gave birth

  1. Breastfeeding – a lot of my weight loss was due to breastfeeding every 2 hours day and night for around 2 months. My son was 4 weeks early and weighed 5 lbs 12, so he needed that extra milk!
  2. Keep Active – I didn’t do any hardcore exercise and still don’t (I do want to take up some kind of sport very soon – not for weight reasons but more for to keeping fit and healthy) So, your probably still thinking ‘come on you silly women, how did you lose weight!’ The best advice I can give and what I did without even knowing is to keep active all the time and don’t make exercising a core. I always go on lots of power walks, play the wii and also the best one is to just dance around the house! Fun for your baby and a great workout for you!
  3. Little & Often – I eat about 5 times a day. I never stuff myself with food but I always eat until I’m full. If you’re thinking how can you eat 5 times a day, here’s an example of my typical day

lose weight fruit

First thing in the morning – Glass of water

Breakfast – Two Weetabix with milk

Snack - Wholemeal toast with butter and a cup of green tea

Lunch - Pasta dish with orange juice

Snack – Sometimes I don’t have this snack – it depends what I’ve eaten for lunch. I try and have fruit but this usually doesn’t happen! A cup of tea and a biscuit is what I seem to have! I would strongly advise you have a healthy snack like a banana, handful of blueberries, nuts etc…

Dinner – Roast chicken, potatoes, sweet potatoes and other vegtables

Two ex-gang members – Sheldon Thomas and Gavin McKenna explain why they think single parent families are partly to blame for the riots that hit London and other areas of England in August 2011. Now, initially I was angry – how can they blame single parents for children / young adults setting fire to buildings and stealing? If you’ve watched the video Gavin explains that as a child he saw his mum being abused by his Dad. The reason he was so rebellious when he was younger was that he just wanted love from a father figure.

sky news sheldon thomas

I think Sheldon Thomas should be part of our government, he understands the real issues  that young people are facing today. There are so many young, single parents struggling  and also people in abusive relationships – the next generation, our children, are  witnessing all of this. We need to break the cycle and show young people that help and  support is out there for them. I’m not excusing anyone’s behaviour, but these issues  within families need to be addressed now and not be swept under the carpet.

Education is key. We need to dedicate lessons in primary and secondary school on learning about real life. What issues we will face as we get older and how to deal with them.

I’m a single parent out of choice, but I had to take myself and my son out of a situation where he was seeing me in tears everyday. If I stayed in the situation I was in, who knows, in 10 years time that could be my son going to court for disrespecting his community, because he would be angry with the world and would not know any difference. God forbid, that would and will not ever happen. My son is growing up in a stable, safe and secure environment even though he is predominately being raised just by me.

It breaks my heart when I hear people talk negatively about single parents. I’m very lucky that myself and my son’s father still talk and have a great relationship when we are in front of our child. Now, I’m not going to lie and say its perfect because its far from, but I’m just happy that we get on. Of course I would love us to be a family, but unfortunately that isn’t going to happen.

As a mum, I feel I’ve done the right thing. But sometimes I feel society is punishing me for being a single parent. What have I done that is so wrong?

I strongly believe that it is much more better for a child to have two parents that love them unconditionally, that live in two different houses, rather than two parents living together that only argue. What kind of example is that setting?

So what do you think? Are the riots all to do with dysfunctional families? I would love to know your thoughts.

NEW BLOG – Preparing your little one for School

So just over a month away until the ‘BIG DAY’, your little baby is now all grown up and is ready to go to school.

A little bit worried? Okay, A LOT worried! Don’t fear, parenting expert ‘Sue Atkins’ is here to give us some top tips on easing your child into school on their first day.

Preparing for School by Sue Atkins

Starting School – The Easy Way!

From the moment you play peek-a-boo with your baby, you are preparing them for the process of moving away from you and learning about independence. Separation can be a difficult emotion not only for you as a parent but also for your child. As your child matures and gains in confidence, they grow into independent beings and it is important that you prepare them to fly the nest one day.

Even in ordinary situations, some children experience some form of worry, apprehension, fear, anxiety or distress. Feeling nervous and anxious occasionally is completely natural for a child when they are faced with an unfamiliar or new situation. From toddler to teens, life is full of challenges and sometimes a natural reaction is for your child to retreat from the situation and to look to you for more reassurance.

During infancy, a baby clings to you when a stranger approaches; in early childhood children often fear new and unfamiliar situations; and as children grow and develop they worry about social acceptance, school performance or finding a group that they can fit into.

These are all normal reactions to life, but what if your child suddenly starts to get headaches, tummy aches or has nightmares about going to school?School is a place away from home where your child will have some of their greatest successes, challenges, failures and embarrassments. It is at school that your child learns about how the world works and meets and interacts with people from outside your family, perhaps for the first time.

School is a place beyond your control so of course it can appear stressful and unfamiliar to your child regardless of their age.

It is also where children learn about themselves: their strengths, weaknesses, interests and how they relate to others socially. Children learn to perform in a way they never have to at home and they learn that they are unique, different and separate from you. So, school can appear fun and exciting but also rather daunting and stressful. There are new expectations placed on them whether it is starting school for the very first time or starting secondary school.

Starting school can be an exciting new adventure or a terrifying nerve-racking, nail-biting experience. This may depend on a number of factors.

A child who has attended a playgroup, or a mother and toddler group may feel more at ease with the new situation as they are used to and more comfortable with, the daily ritual of separation. I remember my son Will walking up the path to his nursery on the first day and striding in confidently to play with the jigsaws. It was me who had to fight back the tears and the strange feeling of rejection, as he didn’t seem that bothered to see me go!!! (But we had been going to the Mother and Toddler afternoons throughout the summer to get him used to the BIG DAY!!)

It can also depend on your child’s character, their ability to handle change or whether their friends are going to be joining them.

I really believe your attitude is of vital importance to this “Big Day” moment. If you appear nervous, anxious, worried, over-protective or guilty your child notices your tension and will react to it with anxiety, reluctance and hesitancy.

So, prepare yourself for the “Big Day” by being interested, supportive, and encouraging.

Here are some Positive Parenting Pointers

  • Talk to your child about what to expect – the activities (if it is nursery or reception – the snacks, milk-time, story time or quiet time, the routines, the toys and the noise of other children) if it is starting Secondary school, the anxiety of finding their way around the maze of a larger building, the new homework expectations, the new friend issues, the new timetable or the new route home on the bus.

  • Take your child to the nursery, school, or secondary school to get the feel of the place and to get used to the lay out or the journey. With younger children, the place where they go to the toilet or hang their coat is of great importance to them and can really help them relax during their early days in a new environment.

  • Let your younger child know that it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous and worried about being away from you for a little while and get them to think of a familiar object or toy they could bring in with them for a short while until they get used to the changes.

  • I remember when I first taught in Reception a Mum taking her daughter’s hand and kissing the back of it and saying “Now you have my kiss so pop it into your pocket and when you miss me you can take it out again and give yourself a kiss from Mummy all over again” I saw her doing that only twice over by the sandpit during the morning!!

  • Think of some of your own personal ideas to diminish your child’s anxiety.

  • Find a “buddy” or special friend who your child could go in with or pal around with during the new experience. I remember the Mums at my children’s school got together in the Summer holidays in one their gardens to have a BBQ where the kids chatted, played and got used to being with each other. It was in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere where it was safe and familiar so it was a really positive and fun experience for everyone. It helped the transition into the school environment later that month.

  • Make the school ritual relaxed by laying out the school clothes or making the sandwiches the night before and getting your child involved in helping with the process. It helps take away some of the anxiety and is an opportunity for listening and chatting through little or big niggles.

What to Do if Your Child Has Difficulties

Stay for a little while for the first day or two but always talk to your child’s teacher first about this, as some Reception teachers don’t always like this idea. As your child feels more comfortable, make your stay shorter and shorter and then just stay long enough to say goodbye properly.

I found children’s tears dried up within minutes once they got stuck into the Playdoh or toy cars while poor old Mum or Dad went home or to work feeling awful all day when really their child forgot all about feeling blue very quickly.

Be firm about attending school and don’t “give in” to staying at home. That sends the wrong message and really is making a rod for your own back!

Always come back on time so your child can feel secure and safe knowing you are waiting for them with a smile and a lovely greeting. With older children don’t always bombard them with questions like “Well, how was it?” Let them relax and talk about it in their own time and just greet them with a smile and an “It’s good to see you”.

Always reassure and be accepting of your child’s worries and concerns. Always acknowledge your child’s feelings as it shows respect to their genuine emotions and it gives you an opportunity to help them learn to cope with new experiences positively.

Always stay positive and try to relax even if your child reverts to thumb sucking, clinginess, and bedwetting or having nightmares. These behaviours are usually only temporary setbacks and remember that you are creating a blueprint for how your child handles change throughout their lives.

Encourage your older child to ask for help if they get lost, or don’t understand their homework – encourage them to realise everyone is in the same boat and is only too keen to help.

Encourage your child to see Secondary School as a “Human Zoo” and not necessarily as a “Wild Jungle” – a place with lots of interesting animals and where the zookeepers are there to help them – not just to contain them!!!!

I hope you and your child grow, change and laugh together through the exciting but sometimes scary time of starting school and with your patience, understanding and love you find it a rewarding and positive experience for both of you.

Breast is not best? Confused?

PARANOID!

So according to a new study it may not be best to breastfeed for 6 months. Experts, led by a paediatrician from University College London’s Institute of Child Health, say babies may benefit from being given solid food earlier. They also say “exclusively breastfeeding for six months is a good recommendation for developing countries, which have higher death rates from infection. But in the UK, it could lead to some adverse health outcomes and may “reduce the window for introducing new tastes”.

Now, this new research has made me a little paranoid. Will my son not want to eat particular foods when he gets older? Will he be a fussy eater? Has he not been getting enough nutrients?

I may be a little paranoid, but I look at my gorgeous son and he is a very healthy and happy 20 month old. I introduced solid foods very slowly from 5 and a-half months because he was just too hungry! I felt guilty for not following the rule and advice of ‘wean your baby from 6 months’ – the day I introduced solids he slept through the night for the first time! Now every baby is different, so this doesn’t mean when you start weaning your baby, s/he will sleep through too, unfortunately. But it did make me think, maybe I should have introduced solids even earlier – I may have had lots more rest!

A lot of people who are not mums my say ‘mothers know what feels right and know the best thing to do’, but when everyone is telling you to only breastfeed for 6 months and you are a first-time mum, everything becomes overwhelming and you don’t know what feels right anymore. All you want to do is follow advice from the professionals.

I even felt guilty about introducing formula milk and didn’t tell me midwife until a month or so after. I was too tired from feeding him every 2 hours day & night (my son was 4 weeks early so needed feeding more often for a while) I must have had an hour’s sleep every night for a few months, makes me tired just thinking about it!  My son was breastfeed exclusively for 4 months, I then very slowly introduced formula. I did a mixture of both feeds until he was 6 months.

Still confused by this new study? Please don’t be. Get as much advice as you can from as many different midwives / health visitors / friends and then make your own decision. The way I see it, my son is very healthy and happy and was weaned at 5 and a half months. My parents weaned me when I was 4 months and I’m healthy and happy (most of the time J ) I have friends who didn’t breastfeed and their children are absolutely fine! Every baby is different, just enjoy your new baby and go get some rest!

Tips to being the parent you want to be in 2011

As the clock ticked down the old year and we all awaited the arrival of a brand new one, I begun to wonder what all the people around me truly wished for deep down in that very quiet place where dreams, hopes and wishes really live. You know the place where we don’t always reveal our true desires to others in case we sound silly, foolish or vulnerable. But if we want to be a co-creator of our own family life we must make plans with a purpose in order to manifest the destiny that that we foresee for ourselves and let go of our fear of sounding silly.  I call it “creating dreams…. with a date” and since writing down my dreams and visualising them every day I can’t believe how extraordinary things keep happening to me.

Having watched “The Secret” DVD a couple of years ago and having just read Napoleon Hill’s amazing book “Think and Grow Rich” I can’t believe  the people I meet, the adventures I have and the relationships and people that I’m so grateful for having in my life since I started to use the power of visualisation. Some people say that we cannot control the future, but failing to plan is planning to fail. If you have a wait and see attitude, then whatever happens simply happens and sometimes you can feel like life is controlling you and you are a victim to fate. When you write down some goals that you’d like to achieve you feel far more in control of your life and you feel far less stressed and far more energised.

Like everyone else, I like to plan things that I‘d like to achieve or see happen for the new year, but I also know that unless I put determined, concentrated effort behind my goals they will never materialise. You have to distinguish between a wish, a dream, a hope and a desire. Napoleon Hill even goes so far as to say you must make your dreams burning desires which adds passion and real enthusiasm to your hopes. It’s the difference between just talking about something you’d like to happen and really making it happen.

So why not look at the sort of family relationships you’d really love to have with each of your children in 2010 or look at the sort of parent you’d like to be described as when your kids are all grown up and are telling their kids about you. What sort of memories are you creating for them through your discipline, enthusiasm and time spent really chatting and playing with them?

Go and grab a cup of coffee and a pen and take a few moments to daydream and make some plans.

The year is divided into 12 months, so why not assign yourself 12 goals for the new year? So start by asking yourself:

  • What do I most want to change in 2010 in my family relationships?
  • What would be different in my life if these problems, niggles or worries were gone permanently?
  • What will happen if I don’t sort them out once and for all?
  • What small thing could I do today to start the process off?

If you want to, you can even rank the goals highest to lowest with one being your number one goal for the year. Once you have written this list, look at it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Keep it somewhere handy or pop it up somewhere where you can see it easily. Just read your goals to yourself slowly and deliberately and start to relax and imagine them happening in great detail. See what you see, hear what you hear and feel how great you feel as you start to see these things happening for real in your life. Be as detailed as possible in your pictures and make them really bright and colourful.

Let the list of goals go into your unconscious mind through the repetition of reading them a couple of times each day ( I often say just before you brush your teeth as it’s something you naturally do regularly every day so you can easily remember to do it!) and soon your goals just turn into habits. This is genuinely the key to success as your unconscious mind starts to explore ways to make these things happen for you -it just starts to deliver a plan that will be the turnkey in achieving your goals.

Loads of people make New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight, give up smoking or take more exercise but I agree with Paul McKenna when he says that visualisation is far much more powerful than willpower. So if you want your relationship to improve with your stroppy teenager or your unpredictable toddler just relax and keep visualising how you’d like it to be in a perfect world in lots of detail – see yourself relaxed and hear the sorts of things you say and do in this perfect scenario. This inspires you and keeps you really motivated and enthusiastic and is far more powerful than just “wishing for” things to improve.

But as I also learnt on Tony Robbins “Unleash the Power Within” Firewalking weekend you also have to take massive immediate ACTION. Don’t just be like one of the people down the pub talking a good game …..and blaming someone else…. go and actually DO SOMETHING about making it happen. Change your tone of voice, appear more assertive and confident, listen more and talk less, read a parenting book on communicating with teenagers – whatever it takes to make a small change that can make a huge difference.
Don’t just wish – be really specific – daydream and imagine how you’d like it to be – take a small step of ACTION and believe – then you will truly see the changes that you genuinely want to see. I also want you to pat yourself on the back and take a few moments to reflect on the achievements and challenges you experienced last year and to really celebrate all the things you did really well.

As parents we forget to celebrate and praise ourselves for doing a great job often under difficult circumstances. Then just relax and come up with some new and different positive ways to further your goals and ambitions in the New Year ahead. Remember, the year is just starting and you have a whole world of possibilities available to you. Don’t beat yourself up about last year’s mistakes – just learn from them and get excited about the things you can do this year.

I hope you make this your most positive, harmonious and fun -filled New Year ever! Keep learning, laughing and enjoying the adventure together!

New Year – Save Money

Mummy blogger Beckicklesie was looking for guests posts, so it was my perfect opportunity for my second blog post!

So Christmas has finished, your credit cards have been exhausted and your little ones are still going to need tons of new things for this New Year! Here are my top 5 money saving tips that can really help you make the most out of your hard earned money.

1) January Sales

I LOVE them and this is the time you can stock up for the year. Buy clothes for the little one for the whole year e.g. buy a winter coat that your child will grow into, shorts for summer etc… you will save a lot of money.

2) Sign up ASAP!

Maybe you’ve just found out you are pregnant – Congratulations!

As soon as you know you’re pregnant, sign up to every single parent club that you can! Some of the best ones are Boots, Pampers, Cow & Gate, Sainsburys…. You’ll receive free gifts and money off coupons. Remember to set up another email address where all the baby company newsletters can go to, otherwise your inbox will get bombarded!

3) Sell clothes

Buy clothes from Next, Disney, Designer stores etc and sell on ebay or gumtree after your baby has grown out of them. Clothes from shops like Primark are great to have but if you want to make a little bit of money from them, people are unlikely to buy.

4) Second hand

There’s nothing wrong with receiving hand-me-downs from friends or relatives. Also buying from charity shops, especially in richer areas – you may pick up a very good bargain and good quality clothes.

5) Be a savvy shopper

Before you go and buy anything on the high street, see if there is a discount voucher first on a site like myvouchercodes.co.uk. Compare prices online on pricerunner.co.uk and moneysupermarket.com

PART TWO

You never know what goes on in people's lives

I have never been big on blogging or really seen the point but then an email landed in my inbox that I had to share with everyone, so here goes my first blog post!

I had been having ‘one of those days’, when I just sat and cried. My son was having his afternoon nap and I should have been doing some work, but I just couldn’t. I was thinking about my life and realised how lonely I felt sometimes, I’ve got so much work to do and not enough time to do everything. My situation (which I will share in another post) has been the same since my son was born 18 months ago and I’ve just had enough – the only person that can change my life is me and no-one else.

After about an hour of crying and feeling sorry for myself I plucked up the courage to open up my emails for the day. About 20 new ones came in, above the 20 emails from the day before I hadn’t even looked at yet. I decided to start with the ones for www.VIPregnancy.com and I’m so glad I did…..This is an email from Ros:

“Hiya Veena V
Sorry for late reply but I had to go out.
I am a single mum to Nathaniel age 8, he is diagnosed autistic and attends a
special needs school.

I never planned to have children and my partner and I had lived together for
about 6 years sharing my mothers house.
In Jan 2002 I was being treated for thyroid problems and a scan confirmed my
weight gain to have a heartbeat. A child was due, and it looked to be due
pretty urgently as in mid march!
April 17th and my lil fella was born to a mum, a dad and a grandma.

Fast forward to 2005, we had moved house to a beautiful farm in Lincolnshire
with more room for Nathaniel. In marsh of that year my mother was taken ill
and confirmed to have advanced cancer. It was at this point things broke
down with my partner. Up until then I bred the dogs, showed, ran the
business making and selling dog beds, cared for mum, cared for the baby. He
played World of Warcraft game on his PC 3.30 afternoon – 3.30 in the
morning, getting up around lunchtime the next day to play world of Warcraft
again.

I came home on 5th July to an empty house a child abandoned in his cot for
at least 24 hours and the same with my mother. My partner informed me he was
young and should be out clubbing and having a life, not have
responsibilities, a child, and a mother in law who was dying and a house!

That night whilst I was reeling from that my mother died, leaving me alone,
bewildered and in shock.

From 6th July to present day I have had to deal with things alone, I do not
have the luxury of family members for support. The added problem I have
Aspergers syndrome, means I do not communicate well, so I have no friends.
The fact we were in a new area due to the house move meant I had no
neighbours to turn to, plus a remote farm meant the nearest neighbour was a
long way from me.

The business has had to fall into the background as my son is my priority.
Childcare is virtually impossible for a autistic self harming child!

So I am sadly on benefits. Obviously depression has taken a hold, at times I
have been suicidal, but Nathaniel needs me.I do not plan for the future, I take one day at a time. Today has come and gone, tomorrow I deal with as it comes. I dare not plan further than that.

My heart is broken, but I do what I can for Nathaniel and try and give him
the best life I can, holidays, gifts, days out, and a mum constantly at his
side with never ending hugs and kisses and endless love. The one stable
thing in his little life is his mum, and I intend to keep it that way”

After reading this email, I cried and it makes me emotional every time I read it. People make mistakes, but how can a man leave a baby in a cot alone and a dying woman? This makes me very angry. Ros is an amazing woman to keep on going with her life, being a single mum is hard enough but not having any support is unimaginable.

I do find life a little difficult sometimes but my life isn’t bad at all. I’ve got a healthy & happy son, great friends and the best Mum and Dad ever. This email made me think that you really don’t know what goes on in other people’s lives. It also made me even more determined to make VIPregnancy.com a success – I want to be able to create a community that supports each other and I want to make sure I can help as many people as I can is some way.

Lets all send positive thoughts to Ros, I know her life WILL get better.

Thank you for reading my first blog post.

NB: Permission has been granted from Ros to share her original email with you.

Veena Features in Abortion Documentary for BBC 1Xtra

I’m really glad BBC 1xtra aired this documentary about Abortion. Men don’t have any support or guidance when it comes to abortion – this is what I believe. Obviously, woman physically go through the process of Abortion but everyone forgets about how the man is feeling. Not once did anyone ever ask if my childs father was okay….

Before I got pregnant, I was firmly againt abortions, but when I found out I was it was a massive shock to the system and I started seriously thinking about a termination. We went to Marie Stopes International twice, both times we just couldn’t go through with it. They were brilliant; I was offered consellling, help and advice but no one stopped to think about if my childs father needed any support.

In 2008 there were nearly 200,000 abortions. It affects not just the woman, but also the man and even friends and family. I hope Abortion becomes less of a taboo subject and people start talking about it more, especially in sex education classes at school.

Top Tips on Immunisations from Terri Dwyer

I HATE needles and injections and have to actually close my eyes when my son has his immunisations done, I should be strong for the both of us but I just can’t. I feel so bad as he is the one having the injections, not me!

If you’re like me, fear not. Here are some top tips from actress, presenter and yummy mummy Terri Dwyer

1. Remember that you are doing the best for your child – it’s natural to worry about your child being in pain but I kept reminding myself that I was giving them long‐term protection with
each immunisation.

2. Try to stay calm ‐ maybe my acting background helped here, but I definitely think children pick up your mood, so even if you’re worried sick, try to put on a happy face so you don’t pass on your fear to your child. Concentrate on them and how they feel and you’ll forget your own fears.

3. Get advice from a professional – your GP or practice nurse will understand how anxious you are. I found talking to them prior to having the boys immunised really useful as it helped me understand what was going to happen. It also helped take my mind of it! If you can’t get to your surgery in advance, try your local pharmacist. There may be products they can suggest to help before and after the immunisation.

4. I hate needles myself and am really worried about passing my fear onto my children so try to put on a brave face – anything I can do to help make this a less painful process for both of us is great! By using a numbing product I feel I am helping to reduce the pain of the needle.

5. Preparation is key – like most mums I’m always running around after my children but I think it’s vital to take time out to prepare for an immunisation appointment with their favourite toys to distract them and a treat for afterwards.

6. Get family and friends to support you – immunisations can be so stressful for mums so make sure you get recognition from those around you and don’t be too hard on yourself if you find it upsetting. It’s hard to see someone stick a needle in your baby so make sure you get plenty of reassurance!

TV Presenter Amanada Hamilton talks to VIPregnancy.com

AmandaShe’s a nutritionist, TV Presenter and busy businesswoman. If that’s not enough, she also has 4 children to look after! Find out how Amanda’s homebirth didn’t go to plan, why Louise Redknapp replaced her on a hit TV show and why she lets her daughter go out in an Ariel outfit with cowboy boots!

Thank you for talking to VIPregnancy. Firstly, what did you enjoy the most about being pregnant?

The baby at the end! I am not the best at being pregnant, 9 months is a long time. However, I love the feeling of the baby kicking.

How did your 2nd pregnancy differ from the first?

Not so different really, I was just a bit bigger second time around. In terms of parenting I think knowing what to expect has made me much more relaxed.

How do you manage being a mum, a busy TV Presenter and run your own business!? I find it hard enough sending some emails! We want to know your secret….

A good husband is number 1, he is very hands on and we really do co-parent. Besides that, we have a visiting au-pair for the ‘mad’ hours between 5.30 and 7.30 to help with the hurricane that hits the house when feeding four children! Most of all though, I’ve learnt not to sweat the small stuff. I used to have fraught weekends trying to get my wee girl to wear something ‘sensible,’ I’ve given up; if she wants to be ariel in cowboy boots, I now just smile!

I would love to see pictures of that! Louise Redknapp has recently replaced you on the BBC programme ‘Something for the weekend’. You were fantastic on there, so why did you leave a hit show?

I needed my weekends back after 3.5yrs! Because I live in Scotland I was away from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon since the show was live. Not much point having such a lovely family if the weekends are non-existent! I wish Louise well. Lots of other TV projects coming up though – just not every weekend!

Do you think woman can really have it all – the high flying career and a great home life?

At times, yes. I think a balance is really important though. I enjoy working hard mainly because I see what I can bring in to my kids lives as a result.

Your first child is from a previous relationship, has there ever been any conflicts on parenting styles and how do you cope with disagreements?

No, we are very lucky that way. Life is never perfect but I think putting the child’s interest first is a good leveller for parents.

What advice would you give to parents who are struggling to make their relationship work?

I am not a relationship expert, all I know that for me, I really did know when I met “the one” – my now husband and raising kids with the right man is just lovely. However, I remember reading a bit of advice, I think it was from Jasmine Guinness (the model) that no matter what the circumstance, you never regret having a child. That is so true. Be honest with yourself at all times and count your blessings.

You may not be a relationship expert but I’m sure people will find that helpful. Tell us more about these fertility programmes that you’ve created. It sounds very exciting but do they really work?

I am developing a Feriltiy programme with Champneys and have combined forces with their Medical Director who is a Doctor and Fertility acupuncturist. We also combine hypnotherapy, reflexology, diet planning, conception coaching – in other words, it is no wonder I’ve had good results in the past with all those experts involved.

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) said your claims that your programmes work have no scientific or medical basis. Are your retreats designed to make parents-to-be feel more relaxed about conception rather than an alternative ot IVF?

As usual, my comments were taken out of context. I have never been a spokesperson for alternative therapies in relation to fertility, rather, I work on pre-conceptual health, optimising the health of both partners for fertility. Helping people be as healthy as possible prior to conception is relevant no matter what the circumstance.

You were 3 months pregnant when you got married, was it difficult finding a dress and did you consider getting married post birth?

I did have to go up a size from the dress I had bought but the cleavage was fantastic. I could tell that my body had changed but nobody else clicked so it was a great surprise to announce it at the wedding.

That must have been lovely. Okay, so we’ve all obviously put on weight during pregnancy but how do we realistically lose it!? What are your top 3 tips?

1.Eat only when hungry rather than when bored or tired.
2.Eat real food rather than fake food – avocados, nuts, oils etc all better than ‘diet’ foods as they are naturally satisfying
3.AND be kind to yourself – you just had a baby!!!!!

Why did you decide to have a homebirth?

My first birth was straightforward, and quick, so it seemed the best option. However, after 2.5 days of active labour at home I had to go to hospital. My son was back to back with the cord round his neck. I was glad to be in hospital in the end.

Is homebirth for everyone?

It is very individual – and birth plans must be flexible enough to change as I found out!

My 10 month old has no teeth, I know some children don’t get teeth until 1 but I’m still a little worried! In hindsight, what did you worry about?

My daughter is very petite and has never had a big appetite. However, as she has gotten older I’ve realised that its just the way she is – and she is super healthy. My son is the opposite. Kids are unique from the word go!

Any plans to have a 3rd child?

No, I have 2 stepchildren too so four kids is more than enough!

What’s your top parenting tips for the VIPregnancy family?

Look after yourself well so you can parent well. Most people forget that bit!

Thank you to Amanda for taking time out of her hectic schedule to talk to VIPregnancy. We wish her lots of luck in all her parenting and pregnancy ventures. You can keep up to date with Amanda on her website www.amanda-hamilton.co.uk.
